Congratulations to Niama Safia Sandy

Niama Safia Sandy was listed among the 2020 OkayAfrica’s “100 Women” who are “building infrastructure, both literally and metaphorically, for future generations in Africa and in the Diaspora” (OkayAfrica). Niama Safia Sandy collaborated with Berlin-based artist Jenny Brockmann to present “Dialogues on a Future Communication” at 1014 last fall.

Winner Announcement: Open Call for New “Modular Seating Elements”

Brooklyn based designer Ravi Raj and L.A.’s Mike Jozewicz are the winners of our 2019 Design Competition. They are collaborating on new seating that will be an integral part of 1014’s diverse program formats. The Open Call challenged artists, makers, and designers to create modular seating elements that intervene with the given traditional architecture of a townhouse yet respect its legacy and history.

Open Call for Furniture Designers, Artists & Makers!

1014 is located in a fantastic six-story, turn-of the century townhouse across from the Metropolitan Museum on 5th Avenue. The building formerly hosted the Goethe-Institut and served as a platform for transatlantic dialog where artists, writers and intellectuals from Germany and America met, among them Susan Sontag, Andy Warhol and Günter Grass.
