Brooklyn based designer Ravi Raj and L.A.’s Mike Jozewicz are the winners of our 2019 Design Competition. They are collaborating on new seating that will be an integral part of 1014’s diverse program formats. The Open Call challenged artists, makers, and designers to create modular seating elements that intervene with the given traditional architecture of a townhouse yet respect its legacy and history.

The designers were asked to cover the following conditions:

- Create comfortable, modular seating elements that
- Are adjustable and stimulate audience engagement and
- Offer a contemporary look-and-feel and are, where possible,
- Sustainable, regionally produced or eco-friendly.

Ravi and Mike convinced the jury with a unique and innovative design concept that incorporates the townhouse’s eclectic architecture and Bauhaus inspired elements into a contemporary seating design that they specifically developed for 1014. The result is more than just one chair…
