As we embrace the fall season following successful virtual and in-person events during the High-Level Week at the United Nations and Climate Week in New York, we would like to share some exciting updates about what lies ahead at our space for ideas.
Democracy remains at the forefront of our agenda. We will continue our trans-Atlantic discussions, Let’s Talk Democracy, in partnership with the American Council on Germany and the Goethe Institut New York. Join us for engaging conversations featuring Prof. Alexander Goerlach with Prof. Aziz Rana in October and Prof. Daniel Ziblatt in November. Additionally, in collaboration with the Open Embassy in Bonn (OPEM) and the University of Cologne New York Office, we’ll host two more episodes of our virtual talk series, Across the Pond - Power, Politics, and Participation, curated by Tobias Endler. We’ll also welcome Prof. Franz Mayer this fall to discuss Elections, Law, and Order.
Our commitment to addressing climate issues also continues. Together with Transsolar, we’re hosting the workshop NYC Apartment Hacks for Climate Action, aimed at empowering participants to make environmentally friendly design choices. In a salon-style evening at the Liederkranz Club, we’ll explore Sustainability and Fashion with Claudia Mahler, featuring founders of sustainable laundry services, designers, and academics. We’re also excited to enter our fourth year of the virtual ClimateTech Summit in collaboration with Impact Hustlers.
Architecture and design remain on our agenda as well. As part of Archtober in New York, we’ll examine accessibility through the panel discussion Designing Inclusive Futures – Urban Planning and Accessibility. The event, organized in collaboration with the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, will feature disability rights activists, content creators, attorneys, and historians.
Finally, we’ll continue to delve into the multifaceted nature of identity. Our upcoming discussion, part of our Humanities for Humans series in partnership with the DeGruyter Foundation and curated by Prof. Irene Kacandes, will address biblical promises and their implications for religious faith and secular societies. We’ll conclude our season with Identity and Music, an evening of discussion and chamber music in partnership with the Leo Baeck Institute, organized by Alexander Polzin.
